How We Measure

Jellycat characters are created in a wonderfully diverse range of shapes, postures, and proportions. Some are tall and upright, others are round and cuddly, while many are designed to sit, lie flat, or curl comfortably on a surface. Because no two designs are quite the same, understanding how Jellycat products are measured can help you choose the size that best suits your space, purpose, or gifting needs. Our measurement approach is designed to be clear, consistent, and as helpful as possible across our collections.

On every individual product page, you will find detailed dimensions that describe the overall size of the item. These measurements are always presented in the same order, showing height first, followed by width and then length. This consistent format allows you to compare products easily, even when their shapes differ significantly. The goal is to provide reliable information that helps you visualize how a Jellycat will look and feel in real life, whether it is displayed on a shelf, placed on a bed, or cuddled in someone’s arms.

When measuring Jellycat products, certain features are intentionally excluded to ensure fairness and accuracy. Decorative elements such as ears and tails are never included in measurements. These features can vary widely in shape and flexibility, and excluding them helps prevent confusion when comparing sizes between different designs. By focusing on the main body of the product, we aim to give you a more realistic understanding of its true scale.

Many of our most popular designs, including classic characters that are designed to sit upright, are measured from the top of the head down to the back of the heel when determining height. Width and length are taken at the widest points of the product, depending on the viewing angle. Width is typically measured from the back view, while length is measured from a side view. This method ensures that the fullest part of the design is represented, rather than a narrower or less practical dimension.

In addition to full measurements, many product pages also include a sitting height. This measurement represents the height of the product when it is placed in a seated position on a flat surface. Legs are not included in this figure, making it especially useful for understanding how tall a Jellycat will appear when displayed or arranged alongside other items. Sitting height is particularly relevant for characters designed to sit naturally and is shared across several collections that share similar construction.

Some Jellycat designs are intended to sit or stand on their feet. For these characters, height is measured from the very top of the head down to the feet, reflecting how the product appears when upright. Width is taken across the broadest part of the body, and length is measured from the furthest forward point of the design to the base of the tail. As with all other products, tails are not included in length measurements. For these standing or sitting characters, the sitting height is often the same as the overall height.

Other designs are created to lie flat, resting on their tummies in a relaxed pose. These products are measured slightly differently to reflect their natural position. Height is recorded as the highest point of the body, width is taken across the widest area, and length is measured from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. Legs and tails are generally excluded from this measurement, with a small number of design-specific exceptions where the construction of the tail forms part of the main body shape.

Certain Jellycat characters feature long tentacles or similar elements that contribute to their charm and personality. For these designs, height is measured from the top of the head to the lowest tentacle in its natural, relaxed position, without stretching. Width and length are taken from the main body only, excluding tentacles or legs. The sitting height shown on the product page reflects the height of the body itself, not including extended features.
